That viral 'shelf cloud' video looked fake until I saw one myself last Tuesday
I always thought those long flat clouds people post were just photoshopped or some camera trick. Then I was driving back from the grocery store in Phoenix around 5pm and saw this massive gray shelf rolling in from the south. It stretched across the whole sky like a giant pancake and had that wavy bottom everyone talks about. My jaw literally dropped and I had to pull over to take a pic cause I didn't believe my eyes. The wind picked up to like 40 mph right after and it was gone in 20 minutes. Has anyone else been totally wrong about a cloud type they thought was overhyped?

Dude same, I thought people were just making up cloud drama for likes. Then one of those things rolled over my town and I felt like I was in a disaster movie trailer. Pretty sure my phone screen has permanent grip marks from that moment.

Wait, you actually saw it in Phoenix? That must have been wild with all the dust blowing around. @david_adams is right about the disaster movie thing - I felt the same way when I saw mine. The way the air turned greenish and that low growl before it hit. My knuckles went white on the steering wheel. Had to sit there for a minute after it passed just to calm down.
