Stratocumulus versus altocumulus mixup after 40 years of looking up

Last Tuesday I was parked at a rest stop on I-70 near Topeka and saw this patchwork of gray puffs that I always called 'bumpy clouds.' Turns out I had been mixing up stratocumulus and altocumulus this whole time. The giveaway was the size of the individual clumps relative to my outstretched fist at arm's length. Anyone else have a similar cloud identification blind spot that took decades to correct?

Ha, same here! I called them “sheep clouds” for thirty years before somebody corrected me.
