Saw a shelf cloud over Wichita last June, and half the park ran for their cars while the other half pulled out their phones
I was at a picnic in Wichita last June when this huge shelf cloud rolled in from the west. Half the people packed up and bolted. The other half stood there filming. I get it though. It looked like a wall coming down. So which side is right? Do you pack up or do you stay and watch? I still have the pic on my phone and it was worth the rain.
Read somewhere that shelf clouds form when cold air pushes out ahead of a storm and shoves the warm air up, which is why it looks like a wall dropping on you. So the runners had the right idea safety wise, but I'd still film for a minute first. That sky is too wild to miss.
