Saw a flat-bottom cloud over the highway today and it beat every wispy cirrus I've tried to photograph
I was stuck in traffic on I-35 near Tulsa and this massive shelf cloud just sat there for 20 minutes, no movement just perfect lines. Flat clouds with defined edges always look better in photos than those thin feathery ones that blur into nothing, has anyone else noticed that?

Perfect lines" is probably why they win, our brains crave that sharp geometry.

Flat bottom clouds are the best kind to catch on camera, no question. Had one out near Lake Eufaula a few years back that looked like someone set a giant ruler across the sky, got my best shot of the whole year. @dakota787 mentioned sharp geometry, and that's exactly what makes them stand out against the messy background of trees or power lines. The rule of thirds works great with those horizontal lines, makes the picture feel balanced without trying. Never had much luck with cirrus either, they always look like someone smeared a finger across the lens.
