Realized my car's AC was just low on refrigerant, not broken.

Wasted $400 on a compressor swap last month before a buddy with a gauge set told me to check the simple stuff first. Anyone else ever jump to the expensive fix before ruling out the cheap one?

Funny, I'm gonna play the other side here. That $400 compressor swap might've been worth it if it was old or on its last legs anyway. Sometimes the "simple fix" is just a bandaid. I dodged a bullet once with a recharge that lasted 3 months then the compressor seized anyway, cost me double later.

Y'all really think a $400 compressor swap is always a scam? My mechanic did one and that AC still works 2 years later.
