Pro tip: stop calling every flat-bottomed cloud a cumulonimbus
I keep seeing people tag pics of simple stratocumulus as thunderstorm clouds and it kinda drives me nuts... has anyone else noticed this mix-up getting worse lately?

Blame it on people mistaking a cumulonimbus for a cumulonimbus't.

Funny you mention that, because there's actually a debate in some meteorology circles about whether we should even be using Latin roots for cloud names anymore. The whole "nimbus" thing gets confusing when you're dealing with modern satellite data that shows how clouds behave differently at different altitudes. A few guys I know who work with weather data swear we need a whole new naming system based on how clouds actually form and move, not just what they look like from the ground. Might save us from these kind of mix-ups down the road.
