Pro tip: Check out the cloud formations over Mount Hood at sunrise
I was up near Mount Hood last month for a job trimming dead branches off some old pines, and I got there way earlier than I needed to. The sun was just coming up, and I saw these stacked lenticular clouds sitting right over the peak like a stack of pancakes. They held their shape for almost an hour while I was setting up my gear, and the colors shifted from pink to orange to this deep gold. I've seen lenticulars before but never that perfectly aligned on a mountain like that. The rangers at the trailhead said it happens maybe 10 to 15 times a year when the wind and moisture line up just right. Has anyone else caught a good cloud display off a specific mountain or peak around the country?

Actually saw them in Colorado once and they just looked like regular clouds. Not that special.

Those lenticular clouds over Hood are something else - did you notice if they stayed dead still or drifted slowly before breaking apart?
