My friend told me to always check the sky after a storm in Boulder

He said the best cloud formations show up right as the bad weather clears. I didn't believe him until last Thursday, when I saw the most amazing mammatus clouds rolling over the Flatirons about twenty minutes after a hailstorm. Has anyone else noticed a specific time or place that always seems to deliver?

Totally get what your friend means about Boulder. That spot where the plains meet the mountains just cooks up wild weather. I've seen those same mammatus clouds after a summer storm, and it feels like the sky is turning itself inside out. The light gets all weird and golden too, which makes the whole thing even more unreal. It's like the atmosphere needs a few minutes to settle and show off its best work.

That weird light makes the grass look like it's glowing green.

Honestly, it's the same with sunsets at my parents' place in Kansas. The whole sky just goes off after a thunderstorm rolls through. You get these crazy purple and orange streaks that look like someone smeared paint across the clouds. It only lasts maybe ten minutes before it fades to gray, but for that little bit, the whole wheat field looks like it's on fire. Makes the drive out there totally worth it.
