Just realized mammatus clouds might be way more common than I thought

I was reading the NWS spotting guide last night, killed about an hour just clicking through, and there was a stat that floored me. Turns out mammatus shows up after something like 60 to 70 percent of severe thunderstorms produce them, but most people only see the ones under the biggest anvils. I always treated them as a rare treat, like spotting a bald eagle, but the guide said they often form on the downwind side and can be missed if you're not looking at the right angle. Has anyone else noticed them popping up after pretty average storms, not just the scary ones?
