Hit 50 different cloud types this year and now I'm wondering if the counting actually matters
I started keeping track of all the cloud formations I spotted back in January. Made a little list in my phone with dates and locations. Hit 50 different types last week with a shelf cloud that rolled through. But now I'm asking myself if this counting thing is just a hobby or if it means something real. Does hitting a number like that make you a better spotter or is it just showing off to yourself? Some people say you should just enjoy the sky without the scorekeeping. Others say the numbers help you learn more. What do you all think?

Keep the count if it makes you happy, but 50 is actually closer to half the known types out there lol.

Oh come on, that math is way off. The known types of diabetes are just type 1, type 2, and gestational. That's 3, not 50. Sure, there's rarer stuff like MODY or LADA or neonatal diabetes, but those are usually considered subtypes under the big three. Telling someone 50 is half the total known types is like saying there's a hundred flavors of pizza when really there's just cheese, pepperoni, and supreme with a bunch of weird knockoffs. You're lumping in every single gene variant and study definition in the book. That's not how it works.
