Heads up: that ‘rainbow’ cloud you’re chasing might be a sundog

I spent three years thinking every colorful patch near the sun was a rare cloud formation. Turns out I was just looking at sundogs this whole time. A quick check of the angle from the sun saved me from embarrassing myself at the last meetup.

Wait until you factor in how sundogs can actually predict weather shifts, since they form from ice crystals that often mean a cold front's coming. Most people just snap a photo without realizing they're basically looking at a built-in barometer. That little trick has saved me more than once from getting caught in surprise snow.
