Had to choose between watching a storm roll in or grabbing my camera...

I was out walking my dog around 2am last Tuesday after my shift and saw this massive shelf cloud coming in fast. I had to pick between running home to get my phone or just standing there and watching it with my own eyes. I chose to just watch it because sometimes you gotta soak it in, you know? The lightning was hitting every 10 seconds and the wind picked up so hard I almost lost my hat. Has anyone else ever skipped the photo just to enjoy the moment?

Gotta agree with @avery_roberts67 on that... it's like how people spend so much time filming concerts through their phone that they forget to actually hear the music.

Had to choose between watching a storm roll in or grabbing my camera" - yep, been there. I keep a cheap pocket camera in my glovebox for this exact reason. That way I can snap a couple quick shots if I really want one, but I'm not tethered to my phone or spending the whole time framing the perfect shot. Last time a derecho came through, I took maybe three pictures in five minutes and just sat on the porch watching the rest. The photos came out fine, but I remember the wind and the smell of ozone way better than any of them.
