Always thought lenticular clouds were just photoshopped internet pics

I spent like 3 years thinking those UFO-looking clouds people posted were fake edits from some hobbyist forum lol. Then I drove through eastern Colorado last summer and saw a stack of them hovering over Pikes Peak for a solid 45 minutes. Has anyone else been totally wrong about a cloud type until you caught it in person?

Wait, you mean not everyone had their mind blown by lenticular clouds like a kid seeing a magic trick for the first time? I spent a solid minute looking up at one over a mountain near my place thinking I'd finally lost it and started hallucinating weather.

I read somewhere that lenticular clouds are actually some of the most photographed cloud formations by pilots, which makes sense because they look so fake. Someone told me once that the smooth lens shape comes from air moving up and down over mountains in waves, like a giant invisible staircase for the cloud to sit on. It's wild how the cloud just stays perfectly still while everything around it keeps moving.
