Went with a plug-in hybrid over a full EV for my work van and I keep second guessing it
Back in March I had to pick between a used plug-in hybrid van and a full electric one for running service calls around Grand Rapids, and I went with the hybrid mostly because I was scared of getting stuck on a job with no charger nearby. Here is the thing though, I only have about a 30 mile round trip on most days, so the plug-in covers almost all my driving on battery alone and I'm charging at home overnight for maybe $40 a month. But on the two or three days a week I drive out to the lakeshore or up toward Big Rapids, that gas engine kicks in and I feel like I'm back to square one on the whole point of this. Part of me thinks I should have just gone full electric now that I see how rarely I actually go past the range, and another part of me knows the charging up north still isn't where it needs to be for a work truck. My neighbor runs a lawn crew and went full electric and he loves it, so I'm wondering if I'm just being too cautious. Has anyone else picked a plug-in over a full EV for work and regretted it, or did it end up being the right call?
