Went back to the lake I camped at as a kid and the water level was way lower than I remember

I drove up to Clear Lake last weekend for the first time in like 15 years and the shoreline had receded maybe 20 feet from where we used to swim. There were old docks just sitting on dry ground and it honestly made me kinda sad. Has anyone else noticed big changes at their old summer spots?

Oh man, that hit me right in the gut. I used to roll my eyes at people who said climate change was changing the places they loved - thought they were being dramatic or jumping on a bandwagon. But last summer I went back to the little creek my family visited every year when I was a kid, and the water was maybe half of what I remembered. The big swimming hole we spent hours in was just a puddle with some sad-looking fish. Honest truth, it made me feel stupid for brushing off those stories before. Seeing it with your own eyes, the memory of how it used to be versus what it is now, that's the kind of thing that sticks with you. Your mileage may vary but I think a lot of us are gonna be seeing more of this.

Damn, that's the truth right there. Once you've seen it with your own eyes you can't unsee it, and those old memories just make it hit harder.
