Walked along the LA River path yesterday and barely saw any birds
I used to bike that stretch near Frogtown back in 2015. Saw herons and egrets all the time. Yesterday? Just two pigeons and a lot of dry concrete. Makes me wonder if the drought and construction scared them off. Anyone else notice wildlife disappearing from local trails?

On top of that, you could throw a rock in any direction ten years ago and hit a monarch butterfly. Now I'm lucky if I see one all summer. Same with those little lizards that used to dart across every sidewalk. My neighbor's been feeding birds for decades and even she says the variety has dropped off hard. It's like somebody turned down the volume on the whole neighborhood without telling anyone.

Oh man, my buddy down in Austin just told me the same thing last week. He's lived there his whole life and said he used to see monarchs everywhere in his backyard, but this summer he literally saw two the entire season. Said it felt like the whole neighborhood went quiet somehow.
