Tried a rain barrel last spring in Phoenix. Huge mistake.

I set up a 50 gallon rain barrel in my backyard in Phoenix. Thought it would save water for my garden. But it just sat there for months. We got like 3 inches of rain total from April to September. The algae inside got so bad it smelled like a swamp. I had to drain it and scrub the whole thing out. Lesson learned - barrels need actual rain to work. Anyone else try water harvesting in a dry climate and have it flop?

Buddy of mine in Tucson tried this too. Humid birdbath all summer.

Humid birdbath all summer" - that's what my patio looks like every July. Guess my swamp cooler is just a really fancy mold garden.
