The recycling bin mistake I see at my apartment complex every week
People keep tossing plastic bags and wrap into the single-stream recycling bin even though the city's website says no film plastics. I walked over and pulled out three tied grocery bags last Tuesday alone. Those get tangled in the sorting machinery at the MRF and cause shutdowns. My complex sends out reminders but nobody reads them. How do you handle neighbors who ignore the rules?

Right, because obviously the recycling fairies come at night and magically sort out all our mistakes. I swear some people think the blue bin is a magical trash can where you just throw everything and it disappears. News flash it doesn't work that way. I've started printing out a tiny sign that just says "NO BAGS, YOU ANIMALS" and taping it to the lid. Nobody reads it but it makes me feel better. The best part is watching someone shove a crumpled pizza box in there with half a slice still stuck to the cardboard. Real superhero behavior.
