That community garden in Detroit back in 2019 showed me how much food waste we actually create
I was volunteering at the Linwood garden during that big heatwave and watching them compost 50 pounds of produce scraps from just one block made me start my own bin at home - has anyone else noticed how much less trash they produce after getting into composting?

Linwood's bins were overflowing that July. My trash can went from full to half empty after starting a pile in the corner of the yard.

Oh man, that's exactly the kind of thing that got me started too. It just makes so much sense once you see how much stuff can actually break down on its own instead of sitting in a landfill forever. I remember being shocked at how fast the pile shrinks when you get the mix right. Plus you stop feeling guilty about throwing away banana peels and eggshells because they're actually doing something useful now. It's wild how a little corner of your yard can handle so much of what used to fill up the bin every week.
