Talking to my niece about her school's 'green team' made me realize something

She said they're focusing on 'adaptation' because the adults keep failing at 'prevention', which hit different coming from a 10-year-old. Has anyone else heard kids framing it that bluntly?

Kids are seeing the world we're handing them with clear eyes. It's heartbreaking but also shows how sharp they are.

But honestly evah40, sometimes that "clear eyes" thing is just kids repeating scary headlines they don't really get. My niece is terrified of climate change but can't explain it past "the world is melting," which she heard online. It's less about sharpness and more about absorbing adult anxiety without the full picture.

My 7-year-old came home last week saying she's scared of "the food running out" after a classmate heard something online. Kids do pick up on the scary stuff without the full context, and it's tough to untangle that from actual awareness. Don't you think a lot of that "clear eyes" talk is just us projecting our own worries onto them?
