Remember when you could open a window in summer instead of cranking the AC?

My grandma's house in Phoenix never had AC until 2005, they just used swamp coolers and ceiling fans. We'd fight over who got to sit in front of the big box fan. Does anyone else miss how much less energy we used back then?

2005? That's wild, I didn't realize anyone out there held out that long without AC in a place like Phoenix.

Knew a buddy who moved to Phoenix in 2002 and swore he'd never get AC. He lasted three summers before his wife gave him an ultimatum after one July where the house hit 112 inside. Now he's the first person to crank it down to 68 and complain about his electric bill.
