My compost bin turned into a science experiment gone wrong...

Last week in my backyard in Austin, I opened my compost tumbler and a wave of rotten egg smell hit me. The whole thing was a wet, slimy mess because I'd added too many kitchen scraps and not enough dry leaves. I had to dump it all out, mix in two whole bags of shredded paper and cardboard, and start over. Has anyone else had a compost pile go anaerobic on them and how did you fix it?

That smell is the worst, feels like you're fighting a losing battle sometimes.

Oh man, that rotten egg smell is a special kind of awful. My first attempt at composting was basically just me making a giant wet salad that sat in the sun for a month. Had to start over from scratch too.
