Just stumbled across a stat that blew my mind about food waste in the US

I read on the NRDC site that nearly 40% of all food in America gets thrown away, and I had no idea it was that huge of a chunk, has anyone found a simple way to cut down on their own waste that actually sticks?

Wait, isn't that the worst feeling when you realize how much is actually being wasted? I had the same reaction when I first saw that number, it honestly made me feel a little guilty about my own habits. Meal planning on Sundays is such a good idea though, I tried that for a bit but fell off the wagon when life got busy. What really stuck for me was just keeping a whiteboard on my fridge and writing down what I actually need to use up before it goes bad. It sounds simple but it really helps me remember to eat the leftovers instead of shoving them to the back of the shelf.

Dude, forty percent is insane, I had no clue it was that high either. It honestly makes me feel sick to my stomach when I think about all that wasted food and the resources that went into growing it. I've been trying to just plan out my meals a little better on Sunday nights before I go shopping, and it's helped a ton with not buying stuff that just rots in the fridge. It takes a little bit of time but it's been the one thing that actually stuck for me.
