Hot take: recycling at the gym is a joke if they only give you paper cups

I was at Planet Fitness in Austin last Wednesday and saw the same thing I see every week. People grab a new paper cup for water every single set, use it for 10 seconds, then toss it in the trash. They have a recycling bin right next to it but the cups are coated in plastic wax so they can't actually be recycled. I asked the front desk guy about it and he just shrugged and said 'corporate decides that stuff.' So we're all going through 50 cups per person per workout for no reason. Has anyone actually gotten their gym to switch to reusable bottles or even just a water fountain?

Our Planet Fitness here in Phoenix has the same setup and it drives me crazy too. I asked the manager about it and she told me they actually get a tax break for having the recycling bin there even if the cups are useless for recycling. I started bringing my own Nalgene bottle and just fill it at the water fountain. The looks I get from people grabbing a fresh cup every 90 seconds are kinda funny honestly.

The cups have plastic wax coating... that's literally false advertising for recycling.
