Bought a heat pump water heater last month - still not sure if it was the right call

My old electric water heater died in July. I had to choose between a standard $600 model or a heat pump one for $1,800 with the rebate. I went with the heat pump because of the tax credit. It's way quieter than I expected but my basement is noticeably cooler now. The first utility bill dropped by $22 - has anyone else seen their savings improve after a few months?

Man that's a good question! I had a buddy who put one in his place and his first bill was a little better, but then month two and three it really started adding up. He said the big kicker was the basement temp - his utility room got cold enough that he had to throw a jacket on to do laundry. How's the humidity down there now? I've heard these things can actually help with that, but also if your basement is already kinda damp it makes the compressor work harder.

Yeah you're right, that basement temp thing opened my eyes. I was wrong about these.
