TIL that Avon Lake's building department has a free mulch pile behind the service garage

I spent $60 on bagged mulch from Home Depot last spring before a neighbor told me about the free pile and I felt like a total clown. Has anyone else tried that stuff, is it decent for gardens or just good for pathways?

You felt like a total clown" - nah, don't beat yourself up. I grabbed some of that free pile last year. Mixed results. It's fine for pathways and filling holes. But for gardens? Too much weed seed in it. Found bindweed and crabgrass popping up everywhere I spread it. The bagged stuff from stores is sterilized. You pay for that peace of mind.

Oh man, that bindweed is the WORST. I spent two whole summers trying to dig it out of my mom's flower beds after she grabbed some cheap mulch from a random guy on Facebook. She still jokes about it but it was not funny at the time haha.
