Serious question, who decided Rocky River is the only Westshore spot worth living in?
I keep hearing from folks in Avon Lake and Bay Village that anything west of the river is basically a step down, and I bought into that for way too long. My wife and I rented a place on Detroit Road in Rocky River for 3 years because everyone swore that was the move, and we paid $1,450 a month for a spot with a shared laundry and the train shaking the windows at 5am. We moved to Sheffield Lake last spring and our mortgage is $380 less than that rent was, and I have a yard now. The thing that tipped me off was a coworker at the shop in Fairview Park telling me she grew up in Avon and never once felt like she was missing out on anything. I drove out on a Saturday, hit the lakefront park in Sheffield, talked to like 5 people walking their dogs, and every single one said the same thing, that the west side gets a bad rap from people who never leave their own zip code. I am not saying the schools or the restaurant scene are the same, they are not, but the way people around here talk about it you would think there is a wall at the Lorain county line. Has anyone else moved west of the river and felt like they were lied to about what they would be giving up?
