PSA: That new mailbox install took me 3 hours because the post hole digger kept hitting rocks

Bought a fancy new mailbox from Lowes in Avon thinking it'd be a 30 minute swap... 2 and a half hours later I was still digging out shale and gravel off Detroit Road. Has anyone else dealt with that rocky soil around here?

Not as bad as the time I tried planting a flagpole in my mom's backyard (she still brings it up at Thanksgiving).

Oh yeah, that rocky soil on Detroit Road is brutal. I spent a whole Saturday digging a hole for a mailbox post last fall and hit a layer of that shale about 18 inches down. Ended up using a pickaxe to chip through it, and my arms were dead by the time I was done. Took me close to 4 hours total, and I still feel like the post isn't perfectly straight because of all the gravel.
