My sump pump quit during that big rain on Tuesday and I bailed the basement with a five gallon bucket
Woke up at 5am to water creeping toward the furnace in my Rocky River basement and the pump was just humming with nothing moving. The float got stuck on some gunk, so I cleared it with a screwdriver and it kicked right back on, but I still shop vacuumed for an hour just in case. Anybody got a sump pump brand that has held up for them past five years out here?
That float getting stuck on gunk is usually a sign the pump sat too long without running, not that the brand is bad. Running it every few months with a bucket of water keeps the float moving and tells you if it's dying before the rain does.
