Just realized I was putting my storm windows in upside down for 4 years

Moved into my house in Lakewood back in 2020 and every fall I'd wrestle with those old storm windows. Last week my neighbor came over to borrow a ladder and saw me struggling. He watched for like 30 seconds and goes "you know those have a top and bottom right?" I had no idea there were little arrows molded into the frame. After 4 years of doing it the hard way I got all 8 windows swapped in under an hour. Has anyone else missed something super obvious about their house for way too long?

Four years of upside-down storm windows? Idk man that sounds like a whole new level of commitment to being wrong. I guess you and those windows had a special bond where they were like "please stop" and you were like "no, this is fine." At least you got the satisfaction of popping them all in under an hour once you figured out the arrows though. Must have felt like discovering cheat codes in a game you've been playing wrong for way too long. Your neighbor probably felt like a genius for the rest of the week just from watching you have that lightbulb moment.

Honestly I did the exact same thing with my garage door opener. Bought this house in 2018 and for like two years I could not figure out why the door would screech every time I opened it. I was spraying WD-40 on the tracks and the chain like every other month. Then my brother in law came over and pointed out there were little rubber pads on the rails that were totally dry rotted. I had never even looked at them. Replaced those things for like 10 bucks at the hardware store and the door has been silent ever since. Made me feel real dumb for all that time I spent fixing the wrong thing.
