Wire brush vs poly brush for clay flue tile, big difference?

Been doing this 12 years and always used a standard steel wire brush, but last month on a job in Spokane the customer had a poly brush and swore by it for soft clay tile. I stuck with wire and took some chunks out of an older liner, never had that happen before. Anyone else switch over and notice less damage or is wire still better for serious creosote buildup?
