Watched a rookie sweep a 1920s bungalow in Salem and he checked the smoke shelf before the damper
He had this little mirror on a flex rod and went straight for the shelf, found a birds nest the size of a basketball that three other guys missed. Turns out he learned it from his grandpa who swept in Portland for 40 years, and it made me rethink the order I've been doing things for 12 years. Any of you check the shelf first or is that just an old school habit?
