That $40 creosote log I swore by failed me on a rewire job in Tulsa
After a customer's chimney fire traced back to buildup that log supposedly handled, I spent 4 hours scraping and now I only trust the brush and rod, so what do you guys use when you can't get a ladder rigged up?

That line about the log "supposedly handled" it is the whole problem right there. Those things might loosen some junk but they don't replace a real scrape, and folks think one log a month means they're safe when the flue is still caked. When I can't get a ladder up, I go from the top down with a rope and a weighted brush if there's roof access, or pull the stove pipe and work from the bottom. It's slower and you get dirty, but at least you know it's actually clean when you're done. Sucks about the fire, hope the customer was cool about it.
