Shoutout to the sweep in Omaha who showed me his brush setup at a job site
I was working a rental house in Omaha a while back and ran into another sweep finishing up next door. He had his brushes laid out on a tarp and I noticed he was running a 6 inch poly brush on a flue that most guys around here would hit with wire. I asked him why and he said he'd rather make two passes with poly than risk scoring a clay liner on a 60 year old house. That stuck with me. Anyone else switching to poly on older liners or am I late to this?
Poly on old clay is just smart. Wire brushes will chew up a liner that has been curing for 60 years. Those liners are already soft and pitted, one wrong pass and you are cracking tile. Two passes cost you five extra minutes versus a chimney rebuild. Guys who swing wire on everything are the same ones who wonder why they keep finding chunks in the firebox.
