Rigid rod vs poly brush on a heavy creosote job, poly brush nearly cost me a trip to the ER

Last Tuesday on a 3-story flue in Medford, the poly brush grabbed a loose tile and whipped the rod back so hard it dented my ladder, so if you're tackling anything beyond light dusting, stick with the rigid rod or at least wear a helmet like I do now, has anyone else had a brush seize up mid-sweep?
