My old boss in Akron said never brush when it's raining out, and I finally get why
Back when I was starting out in 2011, my first boss up in Akron had one rule he never bent on: no sweeping jobs while it's raining and the flue is damp. I figured it was just him being lazy about getting wet, so I ignored it a few times early on. Twice I went out in a drizzle and both times the soot just smeared into a paste on the brick instead of coming loose, and I ended up using twice the poles and a good hour longer on each job. He saw me fighting it and just smiled and said, "wet soot don't sweep, it paints." I've stuck to his rule ever since and my brushes and my back both thank me for it. Curious how the rest of you handle it, do you reschedule in light rain or push through if the homeowner already took the day off?
