Walk-in cooler died on me mid-service last Friday...

Was right in the middle of a busy dinner rush when I heard the compressor start making this weird grinding noise. Then silence. Temp went from 38 to 52 in like 20 minutes. Had to throw out a whole batch of prep I did that morning... about $300 worth of sauce and portioned stuff. Ended up calling a buddy who runs a food truck to borrow his walk-in space overnight. Anyone else have a cooler fail at the worst possible time?

Always had a backup plan for this exact reason. A $300 walk-in cooler loss is rough but relying on a buddy's food truck space is risky. Better to have a commercial refrigeration company on speed dial for emergency repairs. They charged me $150 for a same-day fix on my prep table compressor last month. Worth every penny considering the food waste it saved.

Man, that's like having a dentist on speed dial for your teeth, except your teeth cost $150 to fix instead of $1500. Ngl riverknight, your buddy's food truck space sounds like eating lunch in a clown car with a side of scheduling nightmares. I've seen too many restaurant walk-ins turn into spontaneous science experiments to mess around with temporary fixes. Glad your compressor guy showed up fast though, that's the real MVP in this business.
