Vent: That 30-year line cook told me my knife angle was all wrong

I overheard him muttering 'you're digging, not slicing' while I was prepping onions for service and now I realize I've been wasting speed and ruining my blade edge for the last 2 years - anyone else get called out by an old timer and had to relearn the basics?

Yeah but at least now you know why your knife looks like a saw blade.

Wait, so what actually happened to the blade to cause that? @rodriguez.cora, was this from a cheap steel or did you just abuse it sharpening on something you shouldn't have? I've seen pictures where guys run a knife through a pull-through sharpener wrong and it leaves that exact scallop pattern. Or is this from like cutting against a ceramic surface or something? Just trying to figure out if this is a "buy a better knife" situation or a "you're doing it wrong" thing.
