Spent 2 hours trying to fix a faulty salamander, it was a dirty plug the whole time

Honestly, our broiler salamander at the diner in Akron kept tripping the breaker every time we tried to use it for the dinner rush. I figured it was a wiring issue or the element finally gave out after 8 years of abuse. So I took the back panel off, tested the heating coils with a multimeter, even swapped out the contactor I had lying around. Nothing worked, still popped the breaker like clockwork. After two frustrating hours, I finally traced the cord back to the wall and noticed the plug prongs looked black and crusty. Cleaned the outlet contacts with a wire brush and some electrical cleaner, plugged it back in, and boom, it fired up perfectly. I felt like an absolute idiot because the simplest fix was staring at me the whole time. Has anyone else lost a whole service to something this dumb and basic? Tell me I'm not the only one who skips checking the obvious first.
