My old Hobart mixer finally gave out mid-service last Friday

I've been using this Hobart from like 2003 since I opened my place in 2011. Thing was a tank, never really gave me trouble. But last Friday during dinner rush, it just stopped dead. Like someone flipped a switch off. Had a whole batch of bread dough stuck inside. I had to call my buddy at the equipment supply place and he got me a refurbished one for $1200. But getting it delivered and set up took two days. I ended up having to hand mix dough for those two nights and my arms are still sore. Has anyone else had an old mixer just die on them out of nowhere? What did you do in the meantime?

$1200 for a refurbished one feels steep for a 2003 model.

You said "steep for a 2003 model" and honestly that's kind of where I get stuck too. I remember when those first came out and people were paying like $2000 brand new back then, but that was two decades ago. I had a buddy who bought one used in like 2008 for maybe $400 and thought he overpaid. The thing is, some of those old machines have a weird following for sound quality or build feel, but to me $1200 is still a lot for something that old with no warranty to speak of. I guess if it's been fully gone through and the person is a collector it makes more sense, but for daily use I'd rather put that money into something newer.
