Blind-tested 3 flake salts and the cheap one won

I did a side-by-side with Maldon, a $14 fancy sea salt, and the generic box from Smart & Final. My crew all picked the cheap one in a simple tomato salad. Any other cooks find name brands aren't always worth it?

That "fancy sea salt" thing kills me (I've been burned too). Pro tip: for finishing salt, the shape matters more than the brand - big flakey ones melt slower and give you that crunch. Generic is fine 9 times out of 10, especially if you're cooking with it.

Know what else nobody mentions @beth_butler75? The humidity in your kitchen can clump fancy salt just as fast as cheap stuff.
