Took my girlfriend to a $65 prix fixe spot in Chicago and realized our best night out all year cost $9
I used to think a real date meant dropping at least $50 or it did not count, so I booked us a fancy small plates place on Randolph last month for our anniversary. Halfway through the meal we were both on our phones, the room was so loud we could not talk, and the check came to $118 with tip. Two weeks later we grabbed two tamales and a couple of Mexican Cokes from a cart on 26th Street and ate them on a bench by the lake, and we stayed out talking until almost midnight. That was the night she kept bringing up to her sister, not the restaurant. So my hot take is that the cost of a date has almost nothing to do with how good it is, and I wish someone had told me that years ago. What is the cheapest date you have had that still beat an expensive dinner?
