The "Free" walking tour that cost us 3 hours of parking hell in Portland
We tried to do a cheap self guided walking date along the waterfront last Saturday and thought we'd park in the SmartPark garage on 10th for like $3. Big mistake, the line to get in wrapped around the block and we sat there for 45 minutes just to find out the entire garage was full. We finally gave up and paid $18 at a lot near Powell's Books, which blew the whole budget. Has anyone else had a supposedly free downtown date get wrecked by parking costs? I need a better game plan for city dates without burning cash.
