Showerthought: I blew $120 on fancy escape room dates before admitting a $3 deck of cards works better
For about eight months I was that guy who booked escape rooms for date night, usually $30 a person in Columbus, so $120 a couple with parking and a drink after. Half the time we stood there watching a stranger in our group hog the puzzles, and the other half we finished in 35 minutes and felt kinda dumb paying that much. Then 3 weeks ago my girlfriend and I got rained out of a park plan, grabbed a $3 deck of cards from a gas station, and sat in my car playing gin rummy and talking for two hours, which beat every escape room we did. What really got me was the escape room place called us twice asking us to come back at full price, and I just kept thinking about that $3 deck. So now I keep cards, a couple dice, and a chess set in the trunk and we have a whole date for basically nothing. The only downside is my car now has like six half finished scorecards in the glove box. Curious what small stuff people keep in a bag or car for cheap dates when plans fall apart?
