Picked the $5 botanical garden over the $60 aquarium and honestly no regrets

My girlfriend and I were stuck on what to do for our anniversary on a Saturday in Charlotte, and it came down to the fancy aquarium downtown or the little botanical garden near our place. We went with the garden since it was only $5 each, and we ended up spending 3 hours just walking around and talking. Packed a couple sandwiches from home and ate by the koi pond, way better than dropping $80 on dinner. What are some other spots around town that are basically free but still feel like a real date?
