A guy at the Des Moines farmers market handed me $3 in change and told me to skip the food trucks
So last Saturday my girlfriend and I drove to the Des Moines farmers market with $20 set aside for lunch, and a vendor selling peppers told us to walk two blocks over to the Asian grocery on 6th instead. We grabbed a bag of day old bao for $2.50, a thing of chili oil for $4, and some cucumbers, then sat on the curb and ate like kings. That whole lunch came to about $9, and honestly it beat the $14 nachos we got last month. Now we do the same thing at the art center's free Thursday nights, we just grab snacks from the little market nearby first. It feels less like a cheap date and more like we cracked a code. Does anyone else have a spot where the cheap food is hiding right next to the pricey stuff?
