A $6 bag of rice and two chopsticks got us through the cheapest date of our lives
My girlfriend and I tried to do one of those homemade sushi nights from a blog post and the rice came out like paste the first two tries, which turned a 45 minute plan into a 3 hour mess in our kitchen in Akron. What finally fixed it was rinsing the rice until the water ran clear (took about 6 or 7 rinses) and then letting it sit in the pot lid on for 10 minutes off the heat instead of peeking. Total damage was around $6 for the rice, $4 for a cucumber and avocado, and we used two chopsticks from a takeout drawer to roll it since we never bought a mat. Honestly the ugly rolls were the fun part and we were laughing too hard to care. Anyone got a cheap hands on date idea that does not turn into a science project like ours did?
