Used to judge people who spent $60 on a cat photography book, then my wife brought home that big Yayoi Kusama cat one

I rolled my eyes until I actually sat down and flipped through it on a rainy Sunday, now I get why the paper quality and layout matter so much. Anyone else have a book they were skeptical about that totally won them over?

Oh man, I had a buddy who was exactly like that with a bonsai book. He made fun of these little $50 coffee table books for like a year until his girlfriend got him one for his birthday. Then I went over to his place and he had it spread open on the kitchen table with a bottle of wine and was showing me these close-up shots of gnarled old trunks. I flipped through it and honestly, the lighting and the texture of the pages made those tiny trees look like actual ancient forests. He ended up framing three of the pages and now they're on his wall next to his record collection.

Wait, did he actually grow bonsai after that or is he just REALLY into book pages now?
