Swapped my $40 cat photography book for a $12 thrift store find and never looked back

I used to buy those glossy new cat coffee table books from Barnes and Noble, spent about $40 each on average. Then last spring I found an old 1992 book called "Cats of London" at a thrift store for $12, and the black and white photos completely changed my view. The older book has these candid street shots that feel more real than the staged studio portraits in my newer books. Has anyone else shifted to collecting older or used cat books over new ones, and did you notice a difference in quality?

Nah I gotta push back on this one. Those old thrift store books usually have that yellow paper smell and the photos are all grainy and washed out from age. You're paying less but you're also getting less in terms of clarity and print quality, those $40 books from Barns and Noble have crisp images that actually show the detail in the cat's fur and eyes. Plus the newer books cover more than just one city, they have cats from all over the world in different settings. I mean sure the street shots in your London book have a certain charm but I'd rather have the sharp modern stuff that doesn't look like it was printed on newspaper.
