Spent $65 on a used cat coffee table book at a Portland flea market and it turned out to be a self published mess of blurry cat pics
So I was at this flea market in Portland about a month ago and this guy had a whole crate of cat books. I saw one with a gold spine that said something like Cats of the World and it looked old and fancy so I handed over $65 without even opening it. Got home and flipped through it and yep, it was just 80 pages of blurry phone quality photos of this guy's cats sitting on his kitchen counter. Some pages had typos like The Cat Is Siiting. My roommate laughed so hard she almost fell off the couch. I keep it on my coffee table anyway because guests always pick it up and we end up talking about it for 20 minutes. My question is, do you all keep the bad ones around for the story or do you donate them and move on?
My worst buy was a "rare" cat art book that turned out to be a stapled printout from someone's home computer. So you are not alone in falling for the gold spine trick. I say keep it, because the story is worth more than the book ever was. A shelf full of good books is nice, but the bad one is what gets people talking at your place. I keep my flops right out in the open and let guests flip through them. The typo page alone sounds like a keeper.
